NYPD Lawsuit

“In the thirty years since passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act the City of New York and NYC Police Department have made little progress eliminating physical barriers to access to NYPD’s police stations,” . . . Federal Judge Valerie Caproni (Southern District of New York). DIA is a plaintiff in a lawsuit that says more than half of police stations across the city are either fully inaccessible or have major areas of their buildings that have barriers that block access to people with a disability.

Subway Access

Disabled In Action has joined with four New York independent living centers in a lawsuit against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). This case, filed in 2017 alleges that the MTA is violating New York City human rights law because the subway system is largely inaccessible to people with mobility disabilities. While this case is far from being settled, there are significant indications that things are moving in the right direction for access advocates.
